Spring Cleanup — What You Actually Get for Your Money

Every lawn care company sells a “spring cleanup.” What’s actually included varies from “we’ll run the leaf blower once” to “we’ll restore your whole property.” Here’s ours, line by line, so you know exactly what $350–$600 buys on a typical Fredericksburg residential lot.
What’s on the list
- Debris and leaf removal — everything. Lawn, beds, behind shrubs, deck corners, tight spots you forgot about. If it doesn’t belong there, it leaves the property.
- Bed edging. Every bed gets a crisp mechanical edge cut — 3 to 4 inches deep, clean V-notch between grass and mulch. This single step is what makes a yard look landscaped vs. just mowed.
- Cut-back on dormant ornamentals (where appropriate). Liriope, ornamental grasses, sedum, anything that needs last year’s foliage removed before new growth pushes.
- Shrub shaping. Boxwoods, yews, junipers — any evergreens that need a first-shape of the year. Per the 1/3 rule; we don’t shear back to sticks.
- Hard-surface blow-off. Driveway, walkways, patio, porches. Debris goes off the property, not into your neighbor’s yard.
- Visual inspection. While we’re on-site, we note drainage issues, dead shrubs, tree damage, hardscape problems. You get photos of anything worth knowing.
What’s NOT included (gets priced separately)
- Mulch installation (we price per cubic yard installed)
- Fertilization / pre-emergent (seasonal program pricing)
- Soil amendments (lime, sulfur based on soil test)
- Overseeding (fall is better anyway, but we’ll do March overseeding if that’s your call)
- Tree pruning above 15 feet (arborist territory, not ours)
- Hardscape repair
When we schedule spring cleanups
Two windows:
- Early (late Feb through mid-March). Beds dormant, no new growth, cleanest visual results. Best time if you’re putting the property on the market or hosting an early-spring event.
- Late (late March into early April). After forsythia drops and before weekly mowing starts. This is the more popular slot — lines up with mulch delivery and first fertilization.
Either window works. The early slot usually has more availability because most homeowners haven’t thought about it yet.
Pricing math
A standard quarter-acre lot with 4–5 beds typically runs $350–$450 for a thorough cleanup. Half-acre with mature landscape and heavy tree cover runs $500–$750. Commercial and HOA properties quoted on-site.
